Great gigabit switch! Mar 19, 2010 I purchased this switch to replace a Netgear GS608NA Giga Switch 8Port which fried about two weeks out of warranty (the switch died such that the power light would come on but it would no longer recognize ports or pass traffic.)
So far this unit seems a bit faster than the Netgear and always gets link speeds right - the Netgear had a glitch where it would sometimes mis-detect gigabit links as 100 Mbps links and you would need to power cycle the switch to get it to properly recognize the full speed the interface was capable of.
The only drawback is that the speed LEDs are TINY and must be viewed straight on to be able to discern yellow from green - from most angles the yellow LEDs look green as the green light from the green link status LED seems to overwhelm the yellow from the speed LED.
Quite a nit, but still something to note if the switch will be placed somewhere you can't view it straight on.
The enclosed materials are especially nice as they include wall anchors and screws for wall mounting the unit.
One other potential downside is no paper documentation of any kind is provided, but rather a CD with PDF documentation is enclosed.
Just Works! Mar 15, 2010 Great and simple product. It was plug and play, and reduced my energy consumption from 6 watts to 2 watts. That's around 52KwH per year, and in California, where the above baseline power rate can range between $.30 to $.60/KwH, it quickly pays for itself.
For the price, a good router Mar 12, 2010 Have been using this for the past week with 10/100 NICS. (No 1000 NICS around.)
For the price, I can't complain and they provide wall mounting instructions/screws. Since it's plastic, it's really light. I notice no heat at all and it's been on 24/7 for a week now. No where near the amount of heat my Netgear 10/100 switch -- bought approx in the year 2000 dissipated. I only have a 10/100 net, so no gigabit speed rates yet.
The only bad thing I can see so far, the Energy Sleep feature(s) tends to put port(s) to sleep too quickly and port response becomes non-existent for approximately 5-10 seconds until the port on the switch wakes up. The fix for this is likely as easy as creating a script to ping the router before the Energy Saving features times the port out in an endless loop. I've yet to be able to troubleshoot this switch's timeout times and/or to see if they're documented anywhere.
Another option is remotely logging into to the remote server/host or other activity, keeping the port awake. Could also crank the case open to see if there's any DIP switches or h/w for selecting sleep timeouts. Since this is a slight issue for network robustness, I'm surprised there's nothing apparent yet to easily fix this aside from hacking something s/w wise. :-/
Nicked one star for this gripe, but got a rebate so no biggy for me! ;-)

D-Link Knows Switches Mar 02, 2010 I've owned a lot of networking gear in my days. All brands do some things well, and some things not so well. Some brands even fail miserably at certain tasks.
D-Link knows switches. They make em' cheap, they make em' efficient, and they make it last.
I use this switch in my entertainment center, fed by a Ruckus 7111/7811 beam-forming wireless receiver. It delivers connectivity to my Blu-Ray player, XBox, HTPC, and AppleTV without a hitch.
Wouldn't recommend any other brand for an in expensive ethernet switch.
Just as it is advertised Feb 26, 2010 No problems, Hooked it up with cat 5 out of each port behind a Linksys firewall. Perfect.
